Lecture by Florian Malzacher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p>Everyone interested is warmly welcome to join the lecture &#8220;On Performative Curating&#8221; by German curator, dramaturg and writer Florian Malzacher on Friday, 26 August at 10h00 in Rucka artist residency centre, Piebalgas iela 19, C\u0113sis. The talk will be held in English and is free of charge.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #4b4f56;\">Curating performing arts only becomes interesting when it wants more than just a pragmatic relationship to the genre, but rather itself takes up the concept of performativity as a methodology of incorporating theatre-inspired methods in the curating process. Already Harald Szeeman, the inventor of the concept of contemporary visual arts curating, compared his work to that of a theatre director, while the scholar Beatrice von Bismarck uses the notion of dramaturgy to describe the labour of a curator. So how can the creation of temporary communities, the impact\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"text_exposed_show\" style=\"color: #4b4f56;\">of time and space, the tactics and strategies of theatre, dance and performance contextualise artistic work? And: how does performative curating work in relation to the spatial, social, environmental, and political reality?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Florian Malzacher is an Artistic Director of Impulse Theater Festival (Cologne, Dusseldorf and Mulheim\/Ruhr in Germany) since 2012 as well as an independent performing arts curator, dramaturge and writer. 2006 till 2012 he was co-programmer of the multidisciplinary arts festival steirischer herbst in Graz. His latest publications include amongst others \u201cTruth is concrete. A Handbook for Artistic Strategies in Real Politics\u201c (Sternberg Press Berlin, 2014) and \u201cNot Just a Mirror.
